Audio Visual Procedure

Checking out videos and DVDs:
- Patrons must present a valid library card to check out videos and DVDs
- Patrons may check out 6 videos or DVDs per card (only 2 cards may be used)
- Non-resident patrons must follow their library's limits, not to exceed 6
- Fine total must be under $5.00 to be able to check out
- There is no fee to check out fiction or non-fiction videos and DVDs
- Fiction videos and DVDs check out for 1 week and cannot be reserved or renewed
- Non-fiction videos and DVDs check out for 1 week and can be reserved, and renewed 1 time if they are not late or on reserve for another patron.
Checking out music CDs and audio books on CD/Cassette/MP3:
- CDs and audio books check out for 3 weeks, and can be renewed 1 time if they are not on reserve for another patron.
Fees and Fines
- Any Audio Visual material returned in either the indoor or outdoor book drop will incur a $2.00 fine per item.
- A fine of $1.00 will be charged for videos that are not rewound
- Late fine of $2.00 per day per video, DVD, or CDROM not returned by closing on due date, not to exceed the cost of the item.
- Late fine of 15¢ per day per item for music CDs and audio books
- Missing booklet is $2.00 for CDs
- Missing booklet is $5.00 for CDROMs
- Missing security sensor is $3.00
- Missing barcode is $5.00
Inter-Library Loan (ILL) Procedure:
- Transactions within the Metropolitan Library System will be performed at no cost
- Items not available within our system will be ordered for Berwyn residents only
- A maximum of 15 audio visual items will be held at a time per patron
- Berwyn Library cannot request types or formats of materials which we own but do not make available to other libraries through ILL
*We do not inter-library loan FICTION VHS TAPES or DVDS*
- ILL items may be renewed if allowed by the lending library
- Overdue ILL items cannot be renewed
- The Berwyn Public Library reserves the right to revoke Inter-library Loan privileges if those services are abused.
Reciprocal Borrowers (or, non-residents)
- Reciprocal borrowers are limited to the same conditions as Berwyn residents unless their home libraries impose stricter limitations. Then, the home library limits are enforced.
There will be no exceptions made to these rules. The Berwyn Public Library reserves the right to revoke the privileges of any patron for any abuse of these rules.
