Basic Technology Skills

September 20th, 2017, 10:30am to 12:00pm
Work on the computer skills you need to develop with an instructor present to answer questions as needed. Learn to use the smartphone or tablet you recently acquired. Practice using the mouse or typing; search the internet; set-up or use email or Facebook; work on projects using Microsoft Office 2010 products. Sessions are drop-in, on a first-come first seated basis. Seating is limited, and we encourage you to attend only once a week in order to allow time for others. Participants are welcome to bring a laptop or tablet from home, in order to practice on their own device.

Naturalization 101

US Citizenship and Immigration Services regularly holds information sessions for the public that help permanent residents and others interested in naturalization learn about naturalization eligibility, testing, and citizenship rights and responsibilities. Topics covered at these sessions will include:

1. naturalization eligibility requirements
2. the naturalization process
3. the naturalization test
4. rights and responsibilities of U.S. citizenship

Movie: Like Water for Chocolate

This film is based on the popular novel by Mexican novelist and screenwriter Laura Esquivel. The youngest daughter in her family, the beautiful Tita is forbidden to marry her true love, Pedro. Since tradition dictates that Tita must care for her mother, Pedro weds her older sister, Rosaura, though he still loves Tita. The situation creates much tension in the family, and Tita's powerful emotions begin to surface in fantastical ways through her cooking. As the years pass, unusual circumstances test the enduring love of Pedro and Tita. Rated R. 1992. Spanish with English subtitles.

Cuentos from My Heart: Storytelling for the Whole Familia

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month, kids and families!

Celebrated storyteller Jasmin Cardenas will spin stories from personal tales of growing up bi-cultural and bilingual to ancient legends, myths, folktales from North, Central and South America.

She will incorporate music, movement, and elements of dance & visual images for this unique program! All ages/families.

Senior Social Party

September 27th, 2017, 11:00am to 1:00pm
Welcome seniors 55 and over! This program is open to residents of all communities and no fee or registration is required. We play board games, cards, and puzzles -- or just come to socialize and enjoy refreshments.
