The Monuments Men: Saving Europe's Treasures

November 15th, 2014, 2:00pm to 3:30pm
The compelling story of how art historians, museum professionals and military personnel worked to protect Europe's cultural treasures and repatriate stolen objects during and after World War II has inspired numerous books and films. This lecture presented by art historian Jeff Mishur deals with the complexity of Germany’s cultural climate in the 1930s and 1940s in order to explain why the efforts of those associated with The Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives program were so urgently needed.

Computer Tutoring

Work on the computer skills you need to develop with an instructor present to answer questions as needed. Practice using the mouse or typing; search the internet; set-up or use email or Facebook; work on projects using Microsoft Office 2010 products.
Sessions are drop-in, on a first-come first seated basis. Seating is limited, and we encourage you to attend only once a week in order to allow time for others.
Participants are welcome to bring a laptop or tablet from home, in order to practice on their own device.

Lulu's Birthday Party

Our fuzzy little resident diva is turning one year old! Join us for a guinea pig birthday party to celebrate a year of adorable antics anytime between 3 and 5 PM. Registration is not required for this event.

Family Game Night

Due to popular demand – Family Game Night is back! Bring your family to the Library for a fun night of board games, puzzles and more. Everyone who participates gets a free book at the end of the evening. This program is for families with children ages 3-17.

The Assassination of John F. Kennedy

Jim Gibbons will relook at this most tragic time in our nation’s history, November 22, 1963, the day President Kennedy was assassinated. If you were alive at that time you may remember where you were and what you were doing on that fateful day. If not, you will learn how everything came to a complete halt with just four words “The President is dead!” These were the words that riveted America. As soon as they were announced everything stopped and, for the next four days, the country was plunged into total mourning.
